The Spirit of a Child
Supporting the Heart of our Community.
Child abuse tears at the fabric of every community. Unfortunately, even Northern Colorado.
Here is your chance to make a difference.
Think again.
We hear it all the time: “Child abuse doesn't happen in my neighborhood.” Well, think again.
National child abuse statistics don't stop at the doorstep of Larimer County. Statistically, one in three girls and one in six boys experience some form of child abuse.
A Helping Hand.
The Larimer County Child Advocacy Center (LCCAC) offers services that help children and families affected by child abuse. Our mission is to reduce the trauma to children during child abuse investigations. We provide a child-friendly setting for forensic interviews and the coordination of services while ensuring children and families receive effective and sensitive support.
Using a court-approved forensic interviewer, the child's experience is recorded once. This single interview is critical to the well being of the child because it reduces the number of times the story has to be replayed. The information can then be used in a variety of situations: court proceedings, detail for the department of human services, police recordings, medical examiners and counselors.
Astonishing Numbers
In 2004, the LCCAC helped 445 children. Alarmingly, these are just a fraction of the reported cases in Larimer County. Over one in 10 cases goes unreported.
For The Spirit of a Child
No one understands a child's pain more than another child. The comfort, compassion and unconditional love between children is a powerful coping and recovery tool.
The LCCAC has created The Spirit of a Child campaign allowing your child to support the “spirit” of an abused child who visited the LCCAC this past year. Confidentiality is paramount and the names of the children seen by the LCCAC will remain unknown. However, the power of you and your child supporting the spirit of an abused child will be astounding. Your support will allow for northern Colorado to continue at the forefront of countering child abuse and building a better community. More importantly, your contribution will directly influence the next child through our doors.
